2022 Lazy River Vineyard Pinot Noir
2022 Lazy River Vineyard Pinot Noir
Lazy River Vineyard is a site I worked with over 20 years ago, when we were both getting our start in wine. 25 years later, this site is gaining layers with age.
Spicy and juicy! The aromatics pop right away with pink peppercorn, bright ripe red cherries, succulent sugar-dusted strawberries. Then the darker flavors start to emerge, a touch of roasted coffee, a hint of bay leaf and star anise.
The mouthfeel is as juicy as the nose, tannins and acid working in tandem to build a wine with power and structure. There is a lot in this wine, slowly revealing itself. A blend of 115 and Wadensvil, this is the first of our Pinot sites to be picked. Always a bit denser and juicier than the other sites, we wanted to capture its intensity on its own.

This vineyard designated Pinot Noir features fruit from the renowned Lazy River Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. In 1999 the Lumpkins planted 31 acres on stunning Jory soils, with a North/south exposure and an elevation up to 425'. The vineyard lies on the steep south facing slope of Mt. Richmond in the Northwest Willamette Valley, three and one half miles from Yamhill, Oregon. It is largely planted to Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay and sells much of the fruit to some of Oregon’s most beloved wineries.
The fruit is fermented with native yeast and aged in 100% neutral French barriques for 11 months prior to bottling.
