We have a soft spot for these single vineyard wines highlighting sites we simple adore: our family farm at Menefee Vineyards, Bieze Vineyards in the Eola Amity Hills and Lazy River Vineyards in Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Menefee is a magical place, planted on a rare occurrence of volcanic soils, tucked in the northwest edge of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, up on the coastal range. Bieze sits right atop Seven Springs Vineyard, benefiting from cool winds and warm sunny days. Lazy River is new to our line up, a very expressive wine! These sites have one thing in common: they are planted on volcanic soils, not typically found in their respective AVAs. The Pinot Noirs also highlight the beauty of individual clones, Pommard from Menefee and Bieze, and Wadnesvil (with a touch of 115) from Lazy River!

2022 Menefee Vineyard Chardonnay

This wine celebrates the unique beauty of Chardonnay from our family vineyard, Menefee Vineyards. We sampled fruit over and over, with little patience and too much excitement. Finally, the acidity of the fruit came into balance and we picked it on the 15th of October. Menefee is an exceptional site nestled in the foothills of the coastal range. Bordered by a mushroom farm, a Douglas fir tree line, and dotted with Mirabelle Plum trees and Cassis plantings, it's an ode to our family farm in the Loire Valley. In our third vintage working with Chardonnay from this site, we wanted to showcase the unique character of Menefee; a cool site that allows for longer hang time while retaining ever-important acidity. The higher elevation, coastal influence, and volcanic soils come together to create a wine of purity and elegance. This is a wine that brings a broader texture with minerality and brightness. The wine opens with lushness, jasmine flowers, orange blossom water, and a stony mineral note. The citrus blossoms, grapefruit zest, and lingering ginger notes keep the wine fresh and vibrant.

2022 Menefee Vineyard Pinot Noir

With this single vineyard Pinot Noir, we return with a fourth exploration into the beauty of Menefee. Picked on October 9th, this wine explores the nuances of the vines and surrounding wildlife. This three-barrel selection brings together the structure, brightness and beauty of Pommard to best portray the balance of the 2022 vintage. Aged in twice-used French barrels, this wine shows the purest expression and beauty of a cooler site set in the coastal range. Our 2022 Menefee Pinot is bright, lithe, and supple. Pure red fruit is driven from the red volcanic clay soils. On the nose, red forest strawberry aromas are layered with dried herbs and floral notes of violet. On the palate, bright red fruit comes forward with fleshiness and purity.

2022 Bieze Vineyard Pinot Noir

With this single vineyard Pinot Noir, we return with a second exploration into the beauty of Bieze. Picked on October 14th, this wine is true to itself, year after year. Each vintage, this site produces with of power, blue fruit and minerality. A bit more structured than most of our other Pinot Noirs, the generous fruit keeps balance. Each year we get 3 tons of Pommard from this site, and each year it is the last Pinot Noir to come into the winery. We pick the three barrels that are older, and show what this site is all about!

2022 Lazy River Vineyard Pinot Noir

We first worked with Lazy River when it was a baby, back in 2003. Twenty years later we discovered this vineyard has developed into a beauty! We work with a small amount of Wadnesvil and 115 to make this three barrel blend. This is the first fruit to come into the winery each year. This is the crowd pleasure, juicy, bright and big fruit. This is probably the most hedonistic of our wines. High elevation with deep red Jory soils, the berries are small and very intense and this translates into a wine of power. All three barrels are neutral, ensureing you taste and see the wine, and nothing else!

2021 P.D.L. Pinot Noir

In our tenth vintage, we came across one barrel, a brand new barrel (Mercurey cooperage) of Pommard from Bieze with more muscle than we expected. It was intense, structured and powerful. But it was missing balance. Hopping from barrel to barrel to find a wine to bring balance, we found a barrel of Menefee, so perfectly its counterpart. Elegant, lithe, seemless, almost secretive. The two barrels together create something special!

Pineau des Amis

This is a special bottle. Our inspiration was Pineau des Charentes, a lovely, but hard to find aperitif (though it works as a digestif too!). Our friend had some Pinot Noir brandy from Oregon from 2007. In 2019 we combined the brandy with Pinot Noir juice from our family vineyard. Then we waited. For five years! The result is a depth of flavors. Bright, juicy, sweet, dense. Layers fruit on top of caramel, chocolate, and a touch of real balsamic. The closest I can relate it to is Port, but it isn’t as heavy, the Pinot juice brings a levity to the blend!
