2022 Sunflower Chardonnay

Hand-picked the second week of October 2022, just before the cooling Van Duzer winds picked up for the day, the Chardonnay fruit was gently pressed before going into six French oak barrels to slowly start its spontaneous fermentation. Our Sunflower Chardonnay comes from a very small allocation of 2 tons of Dijon clones from the beautiful Eola Amity Hills AVA. In our seventh vintage working with this biodiverse site, we grow more excited and infatuated with the wines produced here. The cooler weather, vigorous coastal winds, and rich ancient seabed soils ensure a unique wine is made each year. The 2022 vintage balances texture, minerality, and brightness. The wine opens with ocean air, crushed oyster shells, and rocky, flinty minerals. The citrus comes in layers, succulent natural acidity breathing freshness into the wine. Texturally rich, the layered stone fruit profile sits in front of a light oak influence on the palate.

2023 La Belle Promenade Aligoté

Our first opportunity to explore the small world of Aligoté comes from the beautiful La Belle Promenade Vineyard from our friends at Flâneur. Fermented in one Italian amphora and one neutral french oak barrel, using native yeast and patience. Aromatics are a juicy bowl of citrus. This is obviously acid driven Aligoté, but the amphora brings minerality and depth to balance everything out.

2022 Pinot Meunier

Our first opportunity to explore the small world of Pinot Meunier comes from the beautiful La Belle Promenade Vineyard from our friends at Flâneur. 100% whole cluster and semi-carbonic fermentation has created a wine of wild pedigree. The fruit is layered in the background, upfront is an array of spices! It is equal parts juicy, bright and savory.

2022 Wanderer Gamay Noir

Made in a classical style, our Gamay brings juiciness and freshness with bright acidity. The 2022 vintage is aromatically boasting brambly red fruit giving way to a lusher raspberry, cranberry, dried orange peel and a hint of savory notes. Texturally, this is a velvety wine, with smooth tannins.

2022 Tower Pinot Noir

The Tower is our true north. We gather our inspirations and map out our dreams and goals. We hope to capture something that inspires us, and that we want to share. Vintners often overuse certain keywords to describe their wines. We are probably guilty too. But this wine demands specific terms of adornment. Elegant, playful yet coy. A keeper, a drinker. A convincing argument for the doubtful. This is a wine of its time and place. The warm and balanced growing season in a vineyard tucked away in the coastal range has created a classic Pinot Noir of focus & purity. The 2022 vintage draws fruit from three vineyards set in the Yamhill-Carlton and Eola Amity Hills AVA. A single blend is created each year to showcase the nuances of the vintage as interpreted by distinctly different sites. The 2022 opens with the warmth of the season's bigger red and black fruit, the red fruit profile intensifying with precision and energy. On the palate, brambly fruit leads into savory wild herbs. The juicy acidity plays against the velvety palate and polished tannins. The freshness and vibrancy of cherries and red currants persist through a long finish.

2022 Menefee Vineyards Pinot Noir

With this single vineyard Pinot Noir, we return with a fourth exploration into the beauty of Menefee. Picked on October 9th, this wine explores the nuances of the vines and surrounding wildlife. This three-barrel selection brings together the structure, brightness and beauty of Pommard to best portray the balance of the 2022 vintage. Aged in twice-used French barrels, this wine shows the purest expression and beauty of a cooler site set in the coastal range. Our 2022 Menefee Pinot is bright, lithe, and supple. Pure red fruit is driven from the red volcanic clay soils. On the nose, red forest strawberry aromas are layered with dried herbs and floral notes of violet. On the palate, bright red fruit comes forward with fleshiness and purity.

2022 Menefee Vineyards Chardonnay

This wine celebrates the unique beauty of Chardonnay from our family vineyard, Menefee Vineyards. We sampled fruit over and over, with little patience and too much excitement. Finally, the acidity of the fruit came into balance and we picked it on the 15th of October. Menefee is an exceptional site nestled in the foothills of the coastal range. Bordered by a mushroom farm, a Douglas fir tree line, and dotted with Mirabelle Plum trees and Cassis plantings, it's an ode to our family farm in the Loire Valley. In our third vintage working with Chardonnay from this site, we wanted to showcase the unique character of Menefee; a cool site that allows for longer hang time while retaining ever-important acidity. The higher elevation, coastal influence, and volcanic soils come together to create a wine of purity and elegance. This is a wine that brings a broader texture with minerality and brightness. The wine opens with lushness, jasmine flowers, orange blossom water, and a stony mineral note. The citrus blossoms, grapefruit zest, and lingering ginger notes keep the wine fresh and vibrant.

2022 Bieze Vineyards Pinot Noir

With this single vineyard Pinot Noir, we return with a second exploration into the beauty of Bieze. Picked on October 14th, this wine is true to itself, year after year. Each vintage, this site produces with of power, blue fruit and minerality. A bit more structured than most of our other Pinot Noirs, the generous fruit keeps balance. Each year we get 3 tons of Pommard from this site, and each year it is the last Pinot Noir to come into the winery. We pick the three barrels that are older, and show what this site is all about!

2022 Lazy River Vineyards Pinot Noir

We first worked with Lazy River when it was a baby, back in 2003. Twenty years later we discovered this vineyard has developed into a beauty! We work with a small amount of Wadnesvil and 115 to make this three barrel blend. This is the first fruit to come into the winery each year. This is the crowd pleasure, juicy, bright and big fruit. This is probably the most hedonistic of our wines. High elevation with deep red Jory soils, the berries are small and very intense and this translates into a wine of power. All three barrels are neutral, ensureing you taste and see the wine, and nothing else!

2021 PDL Pinot Noir

In our tenth vintage, we came across one barrel, a brand new barrel (Mercurey cooperage) of Pommard from Bieze with more muscle than we expected. It was intense, structured and powerful. But it was missing balance. Hopping from barrel to barrel to find a wine to bring balance, we found a barrel of Menefee, so perfectly its counterpart. Elegant, lithe, seemless, almost secretive. The two barrels together create something special!

Pineau des Amis

This is a special bottle. Our inspiration was Pineau des Charentes, a lovely, but hard to find aperitif (though it works as a digestif too!). Our friend had some Pinot Noir brandy from Oregon from 2007. In 2019 we combined the brandy with Pinot Noir juice from our family vineyard. Then we waited. For five years! The result is a depth of flavors. Bright, juicy, sweet, dense. Layers fruit on top of caramel, chocolate, and a touch of real balsamic. The closest I can relate it to is Port, but it isn’t as heavy, the Pinot juice brings a levity to the blend!
